I don't have OS X, but those who do report trouble running the
buildconf script on that platform. I managed to steal this code from
libcurl and it seems to work on OS X, but I have only tested it on
that platform over an IM session :)
Seems fine on x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu and since it's in curl, it's
probably safe.
