Would you consider accepting a patch that parsed /etc/nsswitch.conf and
respected the specified resolution order (or at least provided the
infrastructure for doing so)?

Would you consider accepting a patch that added NSS support (based on
the contents of nsswitch.conf)? If so, how about support for extensions
to the NSS interface that would enable NSS plugins to perform
asynchronous lookups?
